Competence Development with Digital Learning Stations in VET in the Crafts Sector

2020
Digitization and the increasing use of new technologies have an impact on workflows in the modern working world. In the crafts sector, digital transition is paticularly challenging. It affects education and demands new skills of students who will be the employees of the future, and requires a rethinking of educational institutions and trainers on how to change instruction methodology and course design. This chapter reports on a research project - D-MasterGuide (DMG) - which addresses these challenges with an approach that is suitable for inter-company vocational training centres of the building and renovation trade. The focus of the chapter is on the development of competence by using digital learning stations in vocational education and training (VET) in the crafts sector in Germany. The study findings highlight the potentials of digital learning station learning environment as well as the challenges for trainers and trainees.
