Friction and Wear Behavior of Fluorophlogopite Glass Ceramics

2011
The friction and wear properties of wear-resistant fluorophlogopite glass ceramics sliding against carbon steel at various loads and sliding velocities were evaluated on an MPX-2000 ring-on-pin friction and wear tester. The morphologies of the worn surfaces of the glass-ceramics were observed on an optical microscope, friction coefficient and wear rate of glass-ceramics were tested. As the results, the friction coefficient of the glass-ceramics was greatly dependent on the applied load.As wear load increased, the friction coefficients increases significantly. The wear rate between glass ceramics and bearing steel increased when the applied load increased.Abrasive wear is the main wear form between glass ceramics and carbon steel materials.
