Approach to self healing in Metal matrix Composites: A review

Abstract Inspired by the nature the concept of self healing in the metallic system is relatively new and emerging area in material science and Engineering. As there is scarcity of natural resource, there is a need to explore the suitable methods for efficiently enhancement of the sustainability of a component. Therefore, this article reviews a preliminary attempt to explore the design of self healing in the metallic system so as to withstand substantial damage and finally restore its functionality. Though smart engineering materials provided a reasonable success in mimicking the self healing characteristics but a robust solution for self healing is yet not been explored and is in the initial phase of development.
