Further notes on the neotropical hairstreak butterfly genus Paraspiculatus (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae, Eumaeini)
2004
The material representing the South American hairstreak lycaenid genus Paraspiculatus Johnson & Constantino, 1997 in the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (Paris) has been reviewed. Twenty-three specimens of six species have been identified: The recently described species P. hannelore Balint & Moser, 2001 and P. vossoroca Balint & Moser, 2001 are represented there by the oldest known specimens of the taxa. The occurrence of the species Paraspiculatus orobiana (Hewitson, 1867) in Colombia and P. orocana (Druce, 1912) in Ecuador are recorded for the first time. The species P. orobia (Hewitson, 1867) sensu lato possesses two phenotypes tailed on the hind wing CuA2 vein: (1) fore wing ventral discoidal area with blue scaling (lower Amazonia and Guyanas) and (2) fore wing ventral discoidal area without blue scaling (upper Amazonia, eastern Andes). The phenotype similar to P. orobia but without hind wing tail is described as Paraspiculatus villaanna sp. n. (type locality: Colombia, Villavicencio, 400 m).
