2021
Facial expression is important for interpersonal communication. Facial paralysis leads to asymmetry with subsequent communication and emotive deficits, impairing quality of life. Surgical resection of various tumors can involve sacrifice of the facial nerve, portending the need for repair. Successful repair can restore facial motion and facial symmetry. Numerous interventions and techniques have been developed and improved over the past several years. Currently, there exist a plethora of interventions the reconstructive surgeon should understand and consider when developing a treatment plan. This chapter provides an overview of the management of facial paralysis for the reconstructive surgeon.
