Ten years’ experiences of laparoscopic decortication with edge eversion or conventional laparoscopic decortication for renal cyst

2019
Objective To present the experience of our novel technique in laparoscopic management of simple renal cyst. Methods From April 2008 to January 2018, 185 consecutive patients in our hospital underwent laparoscopic decortication with edge eversion or conventional laparoscopic decortication for renal cyst. Preoperative data, intraoperative data, postoperative recurrence rate and the rate of postoperative red fluid were compared between these two groups. Results Operations of all 185 cases were done successfully, no major perioperative complications were found. No significant difference in sex ratio, age, size of renal cyst, operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume and postoperative hospital stay was found between the two groups (P>0.05). The rate of postoperative red fluid and postoperative recurrence rate in conventional laparoscopic decortication group were higher than those of the laparoscopic decortication with edge eversion group (P<0.05). Conclusion Compare with conventional laparoscopic decortication of renal cyst, our novel technique of laparoscopic decortication with edge eversion is a feasible, safe and effective treatment for simple renal cyst with durable response and less morbidity.
