CRITICAL EXPERIMENTS WITH ORGANIC MODERATORS--MONOISOPROPYL DIPHENYL AND GAS OIL,

1967
Abstract : The article presents the results of critical tests on the organic moderators isopropylbiphenyl and gas oil, a description of an experimental 'organic reactor,' and some results of measurements carried out on this reactor. Graphs are included showing the distribution of thermal neutrons for different values of lattice spacing, the calculated dependence of the effective addition for gas oil and monoisopropylbiphenyl, the dependence of the critical number of channels for monoisopropylbiphenyl on the lattice spacing and for gas oil on both the temperature and lattice spacing, as well as the calculated values of the square length of moderation for biphenyl, monoisopropylbiphenyl, and gas oil. It is concluded that the physical experiments with critical assemblies carried out on monoisopropylbiphenyl and gas oil have made it possible to verify the method and system of constants used for calculating the physical characteristics of reactors with organic heat-transfer agents.
