Nuclear energy is assuredly the first form of energy whose potential harmful effects have caused so much concern. The authors believe radioactive waste resulting from the operation of power plants should not cause major problems of maintenance. Risks are few and fairly well known, and new technological solutions will enable in the future to be completely overcome (vitrification, and disposal in stable geological zones, extraterrestrial dumping, etc.). ln fact, nuclear technology enables the risks to be maintained at a lower level than those to which we are accustomed in other areas.
