Study of the Image Compression Method based on Modified SPIHT

By introducing the idea of the block coding in EBCOT, a modified SPIHT algorithm is proposed. The algorithm not only has all the advantages of conventional SPIHT, but also can realize bit-stream with multi-resolution and ROI coding. Finally, a more efficient image compression system based on Modified SPIHT is given. After dividing the image into blocks, each block is lifting wavelet transformed and encoded lonely, and then at the time of decoding, all the data is recombined. Experimental results showed obvious effects and also its potential in remote sensing image compression.
