Effects of Micropolar Fluids on the Load Performance of Composite Slider Bearings

2012
The influences of non-Newtonian rheology on the load characteristics of hydrodynamic bearings are important in bearing analysis and designing. Based upon the micropolar fluid model, the effects of non-Newtonian fluids on the load-carrying capacity of composite slider bearings are considered. According to the results, the use of non-Newtonian micropolar fluids provides an increase in the load performances of composite slider bearings. The increasing load due to the non-Newtonian micropolar fluids are further emphasized for larger values of the non-dimensional interacting parameter and the non-dimensional coupling parameter.
