REGIONAL IMBALANCES IN INDIA: A THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE

2015
Regional disparities are the result of our unfinished task of nation building. India is facing the problem of acute regional imbalances and the indicators of such imbalances are reflected by the factors like per-Capita income, the proportion of population living below the poverty line etc. In India, regional imbalance has been one of the major concerns before policy makers and planners. There has been a huge gap between active and vibrant regions and hinterland. Of late, these tensions have acquired alarming proportions and are threatening to strike at the very roots of the nation state. This has brought to sharp focus the need of better understanding of the pattern of regionalization, the nature of regional imbalances and their changing structure over time.
