Clinic observation by biofeedback in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome

Objective To investigate the effect of biofeedback on irritable bowel syndrome(IBS).Methods Biofeedback was used in 28 patients. The psychological status of IBS patients was analyzed with self-rating depression scale(SDS),self-rating anxiety scale(SAS), and subjective symptoms with gastrointestinal symptoms rating scale(GSRS) before and after the treatment. Results Twenty-three IBS patients were suffered from psychological disorder. The scores of SDS, SAS and GSRS improved significantly after treatment(P 0.05）. Conclusion Most patients of IBS have a psychological disorder. Biofeedback therapy is effective in the treatment of IBS.
