Parteiras tradicionais da Amazônia amapaense: capacitação, incorporação de saber e resistência cultural

2019
This article is a socioanthropological analysis that questions the qualification of traditional midwives, discussing the incorporation of medical knowledge and cultural resistance in the practice of midwifery. The study consists of a qualitative approach, with narratives of 25 traditional midwives, peripheral, remaining quilombola and indigenous midwives, who are the interlocutors of this study and interviews with 10 biomedical professionals. The conclusions point to the contradictions, the achievements and the recognition concerning the traditional midwives. In this relation, one has like achievements the fact of the midwife being registered in state program; Participate in courses and trainings; Receive the diploma, the "midwife kit" and be included in the scholarship payment system - elements of identity reaffirmation and recognition of the midwife's legitimacy. On the other hand, the contradictions are expressed in the tensions between the expansion of the social function of the midwife, who after training is called to intervene in the promotion of women's health, but without recognition as a health worker.
