Antimicrobial activities of new analogues of benzalkonium chloride

Abstract (Alkoxymethyl)dimethyl{2-hydroxy-5-[(4-X-phenyl)azo]benzyl}ammonium chlorides were prepared in high yield. All these chlorides, new analogues of benzalkonium chloride, showed antimicrobial activity. Activity depends on the length and kind of substituent at the quaternary nitrogen atom.
