Reducing the optical power penalty for electronically dispersion compensated LED pulse transmission by using multi-bit shift decision feedback

The large power penalties encountered in the linear electronic compensation of dispersion induced LED pulse distortion can be reduced by using an electronic decision feedback equalisation scheme. It is shown that with multi-bit shift feedback the residual penalty is comparable to that achieved when using a dispersion compensating fibre.
