PROPERTIES OF FOUR HERELLEA PHAGES

1966
The isolation of four Herellea phages is described. The phages are tailed forms varying in overall length from 180 to 220 mp. Except in one instance the phages are host specific. Some serological relatedness is observed. Grown at 37 "C in broth, the phages have latent periods of 23 to 31 min. The average burst for the phages varies from 12 to 148 plaque-forming units per bacterium. Buoyant densities for these phages range from 1.507 to 1.523 g/cma.
