Tissue-engineered brain implants have great potential to enable future treatments of many neurological disorders for which no disease-modifying treatments are available. Proof-of-concept clinical studies of cell replacement and restora tive treatments have already been made in the clinic, with mixed but encouraging results. In particular, the human fetal tissue transplantation in Parkinson's disease (PD) has paved the way for more advanced tissue-engineering concepts.
