Public-Private Partnership as a way to restore forest management. Some evidence from Liguria

2012
Over the last ten years, Regione Liguria has been enacting a series of development policies with the purpose of restoring a supply chain for wooden products by promoting sustainable forestry. Public-Private Partnerships have been seen as a viable mean to connect economic exploitation of the forest resources to the sustainable development of rural areas. In this paper, the feasibility of this approach is tested by identifying and describing its effects on the uptake for forestry measures of the present rural development programming period. It is argued that publicprivate partnerships could be effective in revitalizing forest management whenever cooperation is set in a strategic framework and partners are actively involved in animation and capacity building processes.
