Foreign Research Progress on Carbon Cycle in Wetland Ecosystems

2012
On the background of hydrology condition was altered by the global warming and human disturbance, organic carbon which was stored in wetland ecosystems at the history period would be released to the atmosphere extraordinary. Therefore, whether wetland ecosystem could still be a carbon sink received tremendous attentions. In this paper,we briefly reviewed on the issues about evaluating the carbon sink/source function of wetland ecosystem;Recent research advances in spatial and temporal variations of carbon sink/source function for wetland ecosystem;Impact factors on CH4 emissions in wetland ecosystems;Response mechanism of carbon process to global warming;as well as the modeling on carbon cycles in wetland ecosystems. We consider that the carbon cycles in wetland ecosystems is an important uncertainty source of global warming feedback mechanism, since that the above deficient researches.Considering the research status of carbon cycle in wetland ecosystem in China,we further proposed the key and priority scientific questions which should be focused. It is how to maintain the present carbon stocks of wetland ecosystem and enhance the function and potential of carbon sequestration capacity of degraded wetlands.
