A case of severe obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome accompanied insomnia and the literature review

Objective To evaluate the relationship between severe obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrom (OSAHS) and insomnia. Methods A chief complaint for severe insomnia in hospital more than three years, polysomnography show that, severe OSAHS, maintaining sleep disorders.Given continuous positive airway pressure joint cognitive therapy, and gradually reduce the insomnia drug for six months. Results The patients insomnia symptoms disappeared and the sleep structure returned to normal. Conclusions Insomnia, not only can mask OSAHS symptoms, causing misdiagnosis, and can reduce the adherence of continuous positive airway pressure treatment.
