Genetic Mapping oftheBRCAIRegion on Chromosome17q2

Summary Chromosome 17q21harbors a gene(BRCA1) associated with ahereditary formofbreast cancer.Asasteptoward identification ofthis geneitself we developed anumber ofsimple-sequence-repeat (SSR) markers forchromosome 17andconstructed ahigh-resolution genetic map ofa40-cMregion around 17q21. Aspartofthis effort we captured genotypes fromfive ofthemarkers byusing anABIsequencing instrument andstored theminalocally developed database, asasteptoward automated genotyping. Inaddition, YACsthat physically link someofthe SSRmarkers wereidentified. Theresults provided bythis study should facilitate physical mapping ofthe BRCA1region andisolation oftheBRCA1gene.
