The use of avoparcin in supplements for growing beef cattle consuming low quality roughage.

It has been amply demonstrated in other countries that the compound avoparcin will stimulate growth and improve feed utilisation when added to concentrate and roughage diets. In those studies cattle were gaining more than 0.3 kg/d. The present Australian study examined the effect of adding avoparcin to supplements when cattle were gaining at much lower rates. Responses to implanting with oestradiol 17B were also measured.
