Influence of training intensity on adaptations in acid/base transport proteins, muscle buffer capacity, and repeated-sprint ability in active men
2016
Our comprehensive analysis of the acid-base transport protein families has shown for the first time that basigin, NBCe1, and the carbonic anhydrase isozymes adapt to exercise training. Despite a 40% difference in training intensity between two work-matched high-intensity interval training (HIIT) groups, intensity did not influence most adaptations in acid/base transporters after 4 wk, and muscle buffer capacity did not change at all. The transience of adaptations was apparent from a detraining response 6 wk after stopping HIIT.
