Separation Efficiency of Inclusion Particles from Liquid Aluminum by Electromagnetic Cyclone Separator

2015
A new inclusion separation device has been proposed; it is the electromagnetic cyclone separator, which is composed of a liquid cyclone and an electromagnetic induction coil. Fluid flow and separation efficiency of the electromagnetic cyclone separator were investigated by cold model experiments. CFD analysis was conducted to predict flows and pressure drop of the separator and compared with the experimental results. A mathematical model based on analysis of particle trajectory was formed to estimate separation efficiency of the device and predicted performance agreed with the observation.
