El Paraíso en América según la obra de Antonio de León Pinelo

Pero el cristiano nuevo Antonio de Leon Pinelo (cuyo padre habia sido condenado a la hoguera por judaizante) en su obra El Paraiso en el Nuevo Mundo (terminada en 1650, pero que permanecio inedita durante mucho tiempo) presenta la gran originalidad de concebir la localizacion del Paraiso terrenal en America, en una region situada entre los actuales Peru y Brasil, como un hecho real, geografico y fisico. De ahi resulta una inversion completa de las perspectivas, en las cuales America aparece como el Mundo Antiguo, y el conjunto constituido por Europa, Africa y Asia seria el Nuevo Mundo. Es la razon por la cual el viaje del Arca de Noe se efectuo del este hacia el oeste, desde la costa peruana por el Oceano Pacifico y por encima de la China cubierta por las aguas del Diluvio, hasta el monte Ararat. Los rios que nacen del paraiso no son entonces el Ganges, el Nilo, el Tigris y el Eufrates, sino mas bien el Amazonas, el Orinoco, el Rio de la Plata y el rio Magdalena. From that point on emerges a complete inversion of the perspectives, in which America appears as the Old World, and the union constituted by Europe, Africa and Asia would be considered as the New World. For that reason, the journey of Noah's ark was executed from the east to the west, from the Peruvian coast in the Pacific Ocean and above China that was covered with the deluge water, until the Mount of Ararat. Hence, the rivers that originate in Paradise are not the Ganges, Nile, Tigris and the Euphrates, but rather the Amazon, Orinoco, Rio de la Plata and Rio Magdalena. Antonio de Leon Pinelo develops a rigorous demonstration: thus, the problem of the population of the continents is presented in an unprecedented manner.
