The utility model aims at providing an encoder fault automatic diagnosis device and a diagnosis solving method thereof, belonging to the technical field of computers. A fault diagnosis system comprises a user interface unit, a model description unit, a language parsing unit, a conflict recognition unit, a diagnosis solving unit, a fault location unit and a digital communication unit. The fault diagnosis system is characterized in that the structure, function and component behaviors of an encoder are described with model description language according to the constitution principle of the encoder; according to the described structure, function and component behaviors of the encoder, the expected behavior of the encoder under normal condition is deduced; and when fault occurs, difference exists between the expected behavior and actual observation and then a component collection causing fault is determined by utilizing logical deduction. As for the fault diagnosis system, the whole operation process from the conflict recognition to the generation of the candidate diagnosis is simple and uses short time; in addition, the judgment and the location on fault points of the system do not depend on the experience of operators or experts, thus being free from the limitation of the traditional diagnosis method.
