2013
Problems of waste management in the Supit Urang Landfill are becoming increasingly complex and multidimensional. Waste is considered as useless goods and disgusting. So far, conventional waste management systems are still wastes collection, haul and wates disposal into landfill which would still cause any pollutions. The existence of an active scavengers and scavenging garbages sorting provide enormous benefits of reducing amount of wastes, reducing pollutions and economically beneficial. The purpose of this study was to analyze: (1) participation of scavengers, (2) participation degree of scavengers, (3) typology of participation in wastes management at the Supit Urang landfill. This study uses a qualitative approach, data collection by interview, questionnaire, field observation and documentation. Analysis of data from the premises using interactive techniques of Milis and Huberman. Results of this study include : (1) mechanism of group discussion and decision making among scavengers , (2) empowerment of scavengers, (3) utilization of scavengers’ output, (4) degree of spontaneously participation, (5) degree of induced participation, (6) degree of depressed participation, (7) degree of economic participation, (8) role of incentive participation, (9) role of functional participation, and (10) role of scavengers participation independently.
