Recent advances on reaction-based amine fluorescent probes

2021
Abstract Organic amines are most highly consumed industrial chemicals in the agrochemical, pharmaceutical, automotive chemical, cosmetics industries. Excess exposure to the organic volatile amine vapors can cause severe health problems. Meanwhile, biogenic amines (BAs) mainly arise as indicators of food spoilage by fermentation processes or microbial activity, resulting in serious toxicological risks and food poisoning. It is urgent to develop sensitive amine detection methods for public health, food safety, environmental monitoring and other related social fields. Reaction-based fluorescent probes offer powerful means to monitor amines with simple operation process, low cost, high specificity and high sensitivity. This review shows up-to-date research trends on reaction-based fluorescent probes for amines detection. The design principles, chemical structures, sensing mechanism and their practical applications of the probes are highlighted. The outlook, challenges and future opportunities for the development of reaction-based amines fluorescent probes are also presented.
