SUMMARY The absence or anatomical distortion of the umbilicus may cause severe psychological problems. One of the objectives of abdominoplasty is to obtain a esthetically attractive umbilicus. We report a new technique of umbilical reinsertion, denominated Y technique with flaps without epidermis. It has been used in five patients. It is easy to perform and yields reproducible results, obtaining natural looking umbilicuses, with a high degree of satisfaction among patients.
