Molecular Biology in plants

Abstract. Plant molecular biology and biochemistry, together with plant transformation systems, have shown important developments in the last few years. This has led to different research groups in both universities and biotechnology companies to introduce into a variety of crop plants, those genes that confer a better productivity, postharvest quality and the capability of producing in planta important industrial compounds. These scientific and technological developments, have led us to predict a modern agriculture biotechnology directed towards increasing productivity and reducing or eliminating ecological damage generated by the increased use of agrichemicals.
