Weave Bead Welding Based Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing Technology

For wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology, the instable formation and the quality of the weld bead is still a problem. In welding technology, the weave bead welding can improve welding efficiency and welding quality. Besides, the weaving arc can reduce the presence of defects in the weld seam. This paper explores the application of weave bead welding in WAAM to improve forming stability and quality of the weld bead. In single-layer experiments, different parameters of weave length and weave amplitude are investigated to analyze their influences to the weld bead geometry. The forming stability of welding beads with weaving and without weaving are compared in multi-layer experiments. A large component is manufactured using the weave bead method, showing that the application of weave bead welding is a good way to improve forming stability in fabricating large scale parts.
