Barge Break-Aways

2008
Barges, which are the primary mode of transportation for commercial cargo, can break away from their towing or mooring arrangements from time to time. This is most likely to occur either from a towing vessel that is underway or at a fleeting area facility. In this focus on barge safety, the authors discuss prevention of and response to barge break-aways. Case studies of the Anne Holly and Maxwell Locks and Dam break-away events are presented.
