ADNEXAL MASSES IN PREGNANCY: A TWO- CENTER EXPERIENCE

Aim: To evaluate the characteristics of adnexal masses in pregnancy diagnosed and managed in our centers. Material and methods: This study was conducted in the interval January 2008-December 2017 in two major centers. Included in the study were pregnant women diagnosed with adnexal masses detected by ultrasound or incidentally during cesarean delivery. Adnexal masses were evaluated ultrasonically and histopathologicaly. Results: The incidence of adnexal masses in pregnancy identified in our study was 0.31 %. Prenatal diagnosis of adnexal masses was made in 140 cases (66.6 %), 70 cases (33.3 %) being diagnosed during cesarean section. The mean size of all adnexal masses was 6.8 cm. Histopathologically, the vast majority of adnexal masses were benign tumors. The most common complication of adnexal masses during pregnancy was ovarian torsion. Conclusions: It is very important to know that adnexal masses can progress rapidly and can be life-threatening for the mother and fetus; thus it is absolutely necessary to develop and implement specific diagnostic and treatment protocols.
