Heterocladium wulfsbergii I.Hagen in the British Isles

2000
Abstract Heterocladium wulfsbergii has been shown to be a widely distributed moss in the British Isles. Following critical examination of extensive British and Irish herbarium material H. wulfsbergii is accepted at species level, differing from H. heteropterum in morphology, ecology and geographical distribution. Very depauperate plants may be difficult to distinguish from H. heteropterum var. flaccidum but the two are ecologically distinct. Grounds are given for the recognition of H. heteropterum var. flaccidum as a distinct variety.
