Histamine h2-antagonist effervescent composition containing effervescent couple

PURPOSE: To obtain a composition comprising a specific effervescent couple, cimetidine and a non-toxic carrier, capable of rapidly dissolving, promoting absorption, having storage stability and useful for treatment of ulcer of gastroduodenal mucous membrane, peptic oesophagitis, esophagus bleeding, etc. CONSTITUTION: This composition in form of granules, tablets, etc., comprises (A) antacid effervescent couple comprising a mixture of (i) sodium or potassium dihydrogen citrate and (ii) disodium or dipotassium hydrogen citrate in weight ratio of components (i)/(ii) of (8/1) to (1/10) [preferably (2/1) to (6/10)], (B) cimetidine and its free base or hydrochloride and (C) a non-toxic pharmaceutically permissible carrier.
