Design of a Polarization-Reconfigurable and Frequency-Tunable Active Metasurface

A polarization-reconfigurable and frequency-tunable active metasurface (MS) is presented. The proposed MS can realize the dynamic switch of linear to linear, and linear to circular polarization. The MS is composed of active unit cells incorporated with voltage controlling. By controlling the DC bias voltage of the varactor diodes, the electromagnetic responses of the proposed MS can be tailored, leading to reconfigurable polarization conversions. The simulation results show that the proposed MS structure can switch between left-handed circular polarization (LHCP), right-handed circular polarization (RHCP), and linear polarization (LP) in the frequency band of 3-4GHz.
