바실리카 교회건축의 형성과 변천에 관한 연구

Basilica church had been developed through the Byzantine architecture from the early christian church to Romanesque that shows characteristics of Roman basilica well. Gothic church is hard to call as Basilica church that emphasized the harmony of horizontality and massiveness. It is also hard to say that symmetrical Greek cross type building can be classified as Basilica church, even though the characteristic of Basilica was revealed in Renaissance architecture. Because, the origin of the Greek cross had been derived from Latin cross but the more fundamental origin had came from center type of Roman Pantheon which was representative pagan temple. And that is because Greek cross church does not have linear space of long axis which is outstanding characteristic of Basilica church and cannot be found out the characteristic of Basilica style that is moving and rising to the apse according to the center axis. Consequently, the prototype of Basilica church is Roman public Basilica and it means that Basilica church had been completed in Romanesque through the early Christian church eventually.
