Rapid Synthesis of 4-oxo-4H-chromene-3-carboxylic Acid

4-Oxo-4H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid (8) is an important intermediate in many biologically active compounds. In this work, a rapid synthetic method for compound 8 was established. The compound 8 was synthesized from the commercially available 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl) ethanone 9 through two steps including vilsmeier reaction and oxidation by Jones reagent. The structure was confirmed by 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectrum. Furthermore, the synthetic method was optimized.
