Implementation of POCT

2018
The implementation of POCT methods in the hospital is not solely a matter of negotiations between the clinical departments and the central laboratory. Over the long term, satisfactory solutions can only emerge when all participants in the POCT process also take part in the decision-making and in solving the problems and conflicts that occur. In order to organize POCT as clinically rational and economically sensible as well as compliant with the statutory regulations governing quality assurance, DIN ISO 22870 therefore recommends constituting a POCT committee with a POCT coordinator at its head. Among the extensive tasks, the POCT coordinator is responsible for the spatial requirements, device selection, analysis, method comparisons, data processing of the results and training/qualification of the POCT operators. The foremost objective is always to assure the quality of POCT tests in the patients’ best interests.
