Abstract The ability of a group of freshman and junior medical students to learn human cytogenetics using a semiprogrammed workbook was measured and the results compared with student reading ability (vocabulary and comprehension) as measured by the Nelson-Denny reading test. Three freshman and one junior control groups (to test different variables of the experimental design) were compared to a freshman and a junior treatment group, using a post-test only method.
