Bone scan in iilotibial band syndrome

1995
Iliotibial band syndrome typically occurs in sportsmen. While exercising, especially running or cycling, patients experience progressive pain on the lateral side of the knee. This pain is caused by friction of the iliotibial band against the lateral epicondyle of the femur. The authors report the findings of bone scintigraphy in a patient with this syndrome. A hot spot was present on the posterolateral aspect of the lateral femoral epicondyle. This finding probably resulted from rubbing of the iliotibial band over the bony surface
