from simple excision and no immobilization imply that more is needed. Certainly, we know that untreated Bennett fractures tend to displace.Whywould it be any different for a simple trapezial excision and no stabilization at length? To our knowledge, there has not been a paper since the 1950s that has not used some form, either singularly or in combination, of temporary or permanent immobilization, suspension, or interposition. To do otherwise flies in the face of experience, intuition, and more than 50 years of investigation and peer-reviewed publication. We encourage the authors of the letter to study their technique with a randomized prospective trial and report their 2-year results. If their observations hold up, we can all greatly benefit.
