Rapid evaluation of candidate materials preliminary to in vivo testing for systemic control of northern fowl mites, Ornithonyssus sylviarum (Acari: Macronyssidae).

Use of a simple in vitro feeding apparatus is described for testing acaricidal properties of substances when ingested by northern fowl mites, Ornithonyssus sylviarum (Canestrini & Fanzago). Of the compounds tested, three were highly toxic to northern fowl mites, cythioate, pirimiphos-methyl, and dimethoate, in that order of decreasing effectivenes.
