Palaeoenvironment of the Jurassicsystem in the Western and Central Tethys (Toarcian, Callovian, Kimmeridgian, Tithonian): An overview

1994
Abstract Palaeoenvironment maps of Western and Central Tethys (Central America to India) have been established for Middle Toarcian, Middle Callovian, Early Kimmeridgian and Late Tithonian times. They will be extended to Australia and Indonesia. Using these maps an attempt is made to recognize the main environmental parameters. Four have been evidenced (1) latitude positioning which mainly controls temperature and illuminations (2) morphology of seas and oceans, (3) hydrodynamics of surface and deep marine currents, (4) presence of new organisms rock-forming species. The feasibility of modelling is evaluated.
