Intracerebral Versus Intraventricular Pressure Recording

1986
Intracranial pressure (ICP) recording has a long tradition in Lund, ever since Lundberg developed his intraventricular method (1). Until now, more than 2,500 patients have been subjected to continuous and often prolonged recording of the ventricular fluid pressure (VFP), corresponding to 110—125 patients annually in later years. No extraventricular method has hitherto been incorporated in our clinical routine, although the epidural device of Nornes and Serck-Hanssen (2) was tried and compared to the VFP method in the early seventies (3). At the same time we made an evaluation of the complications of VFP recording (4). These were of infectious nature but occurred at an acceptably low rate, (1 • 1%), were easy to treat and without lasting sequelae.
