Interferometric phase compensation using coherence for vegetation areas in PolInSAR

2009
Acquiring accurately interferometric phase information of the polarimetric interferometry SAR (PolInSAR) is the key of precisely parameters inversion of ground features. However due to the scattering complexity and the attenuation of electromagnetic waves in the canopy of vegetation, measurement interferometric phase of vegetation layer is often lower than the true phase corresponding to vegetation height. And a large number of random phase errors are produced at the same time. Based on properties of PolInSAR coherent coefficient, we present a method of phase compensation to the measurement interferometric phase in PolInSAR using coherent coefficient of polarization assortment which is corresponding to the most vegetation- sensitive scattering. The method succeeds reducing interferometric phase error which is brought by the vegetation layer attenuation. Finally, through experimental data, interferometric phase after compensation using the presented method is closer to true phase of the vegetation real height than the measurement phase, and the validity of the method is verified.
