Propellant management system for liquid metal ion propeller

2013
A propellant management system for a liquid metal ion propeller comprises a storage chamber, a flow-limiting micro-channel and a rupture disk, wherein the storage chamber is provided with an sphere cylinder or spherical inner cavity structure; the flow-limiting micro-channel is a structure made by the aid of an ion etching process; and the rupture disk is arranged at the joint of a capillary channel and the lower portion of an emitter. The propellant management system has the advantages that volume ratio is selected reasonably, liquid thermal expansion is utilized for crushing a sealed protection device, and liquid is expanded to a narrow seam of the emitter; and by the aid of the flow-limiting micro-channel arranged in the system, a micro-flow structure can be used for limiting flow rate, so that generated neutral liquid drops are decreased, risk of short circuit due to the fact that large liquid drops generated by over-high flow rate are adhered between two poles is avoided, and ionization rate and reliability are improved.
