Electricity costs lowered dramatically with computer-monitored load shedding

1976
Use of a sensor-oriented digital computer system for energy management has sharply reduced electrical power consumption and peak demand. Since plant requirements can be predicted more accurately, the use of intermittently operated equipment can be scheduled more uniformly to even out short- and long-term variations in consumption rates. An average rate for electricity of 2 to 3 cents/kWh indicates an approximate savings of at least $5500/mo or $66,000/yr through the decrease in electrical consumption made possible by the computer.
