A Socio-Technical Knowledge Sharing System Model for Governmental Organizations

2019
Recently, there has been a paradigm shift from a concentration on technical processes to a recognition of the role of human behavior in developing a knowledge sharing system (KSS), particularly in governmental organizations (GO). A qualitative case study method was selected in order to obtain deeper insights into both the social and technological factors which influence academicians' knowledge sharing behavior (KSB) in GOs. Data were collected over a six-month period through a series of semi-structured interviews with a sample of highly educated academic staff at a large Malaysian GO. This study contributes to the field of knowledge exchanging and sharing systems through developing a socio-technical knowledge sharing system model (STKSSM) which can be used as a guide to develop a KSS in GOs that could facilitate the knowledge sharing (KS) process. In particular, the model could be used to develop KSSs in similar academic institutions.
