Synthesis and characterization of maleic anhydride copolymers and their derivatives. 1. Addition polymerization - literature survey

The literature data on maleic anhydride (MA) additive polymerization are reviewed and discussed. Different models have been used to describe MA binary copolymerization: the terminal model, the penultimate model, the modelwith a charge transfer complex (CTC) participation. The most recent COMPPEN model is a combination between the CTC participation model and the penultimate model. The ternary copolymerization of MA was described with different models, taking into account the donor, acceptor or neutral character of the other two monomers. The utilization of performant analytical methods can clarify the copolymerization mechanism and the structure of copolymers.
